Dr. Seuss gave us green eggs and ham, but it was the Captain, Robert Keeshan '42 A, Doctor of Humane Letters 1975, and two-time Dartmouth parent, who gave Mr. Grean Jeans and Bunny Rabbit to kids across the nation. His television show ran from 1955 to 1985 on CBS (making it the
longest-running children's show on network TV), then resurfaced on PBS in 1991. Before his Captain days, Keeshan originated the Clarabell the Clown character on the "Howdy Doody Show" and played the role for five years.
His Captain is a gentle soul much like Fred Rogers '50, who after deciding that Dartmouth was not his preferred neighborhood created a well-known 'burb of his own on public television.
