Louis Bell 1884 was the first lighting consultant. After earning a doctorate in physics from Johns Hopkins University, he hilled himself as a consulting electrical engineer and designed power plants. He registered more than 40 patents for his innovations in power transmission and optical apparatus and debunked fears raised by ophthalmologists that artificial light was bad for the eyes.
