The class's 14th Annual '54 New York Holiday Luncheon was held in December at Billy's in New York City. This event has grown over the last few years. It started with a handful of classmates getting together. This year a record of 41 attended. You do not have to be from the New York area to attend. The luncheon is a good excuse to plan a visit to the Big Apple and spend a relaxed afternoon with classmates. Besides the usual attendees, also present were BillWalls (taking an afternoon off from doing justice), Jerry Smith (visiting from Chicago), Gerry Bregman, Dick Franklin,Wally Anderson, Tony Kane, and JohnFreund. Lon Chaikin came from Florida, John Gillespie and John Heston from New Hampshire, Dick Barker from Massachusetts, Tom Kelsey from Bermuda, and Steve Mullins from Chicago.
Even chief justices can be surprised. Norm Veasey's secretary convinced him that the business of the Delaware Supreme Court could wait while he came to New York to attend the luncheon. As well it should, since he was presented with the 1954 Award. (The citation will appear in Pete Barker's newsletter.) Larry Russell called to find out why Phil Pendleton had not attended his 45th high school reunion. Since I had no idea, I gave him Phil's phone number. Larry is now living at 3600 River Trace Drive, Alpharetta, GA, (770) 772-4622, and managing a Holiday Inn.
