APRIL 1996 Dick Bordeau,

As I write this column from my office in Boston on a frigid December day, I would like to again reiterate my plea for more class news. Just a few sentences; a "soundbite" will suffice. Postcards, e-mail, and phone calls are all acceptable. If the news needs more space, I will forward it on to Allen and Ted for the newsletter. In this "information age," I need your help in making this column a more proactive news medium for our class. I did receive a nice letter from Peter Dale, who enclosed a "very Dartmouth photo" of his daughter Nicole's wedding, which took place in Ashland, Ore., on September 9 of last year. The photo included Peter's wife, Evelyn (sister of Richard Godfrey '63), Peter, daughter Nicole '89, and new son-in-law Jeff Slaton '87 . Son Christopher, who is a junior at Colgate, was not allowed in this all-Dartmouth photo. As reported, Peter has been a professor of English at the University of California at Davis since 1980 (having previously taught as an assistant professor at Harvard). For the past three years he has served as provost for undergraduate studies for some 17,500 undergraduates. Evelyn teaches fulltime in a private school and is a parttime lecturer at California State University-Sacramento.

My thanks to Jonathan Greene and his wife, Barbara, for the e-mail informing us that daughter Evan Elizabeth Green is a Dartmouth '99 and that daughter Whitney is a Duke '97. The Greenes reside in Silver Spring, Md. While on the subject of e-mail, I recall receiving one from TimWarrener, which I then somehow misplaced (probably a result of my decidedly unpolished computer skills). Tim, if you would be so kind as to resubmit that news, it would be most appreciated. My assurances to the class that nothing more will be lost.

I have had the pleasure in the last few months of frequent meetings and communication with both Steve Waterhouse and Allen Zern. With three other non-Dartmouth people, we have formed a new company called Occom Partners, specializing in investment banking and venture capital-related activities. Our office is in Boston, but we operate out of New York and London as well. We hope that those of you who are seeking assistance in the sale or finance of your companies will give us a call.

The College recently sent me a notice that Dr. Charles "Stormy" Mayo of Provincetown, Mass., had been a guest speaker at the Chatham (Mass.) Women's Club. The article describes Dr. Mayo as "internationally known as a pioneer in the scientific study of the humpback, fin, and right whales who has spoken on the environment at the United Nations." After graduation, Stormy earned both his master's and doctorate in marine biology from the University of Miami's School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.

Sadly, I must report on the passing of William D. Harper on November 17 in Winston-Salem after a short illness. The class extends its deepest sympathies to his wife, Martha, and their three boys. A complete obituary will appear in a later issue.
