APRIL 1996 Deborah Michel Rosch,

I breathe a sigh of relief. I have found Roger Goodman's errant postcard (see last issue). My memory is not as faulty as I am often led to suspect: Roger was in Mexico. But why not let him speak for himself—in toto, no less, as it wasn't a very long postcard.

"Greetings from Mexico," Roger writes. "Began a round-the-world journey a month ago logged about 6,000 miles on my beat-up Beemer so far. Started on Cape Cod. From here through Central America and then across the Pacific and the maps of Asia to Scandinavia. Left Capitol Hill after the Contract with America—headed to JFK School when I return. I'll stay in touch."

Scandinavia? Am I the only one wondering why Scandinavia? I like that "across the Pacific" stuff, though, and am now cherishing a vision of Roger in a James Bondian, if elderly, "Beemer," complete with submarine capabilities. Even as I write, another postcard arrives, this one from further south:

"My poor old car has made it to Honduras so far. (R.I. plates "VOX 83"— no kidding!) Nicaragua's next. El Salvador was quite a sobering place to visit—tragic legacy of war." That reminds me, I continue to receive

missives from the infamous Teddy D, whose name shall be neither written or bold-faced here ever again. He and Roger weren't friends, were they?

Bill Huber writes, "Lynn and I are pleased to report the birth of our third child, Benjamin John, on October 24. (I tried for Benjamin Thelonious, but Lynn vetoed it.) His sisters, Kelsey 6 and Clare 4, are extremely excited about their new toy brother, and have already tie-dyed his "10 Reasons to Send Your Kid to Dartmouth" T-shirt. Since we weren't sure whether a new child would be disruptive enough on our lifestyles, we arranged for a concurrent major career shift for me from helicopters (Igor Sikorsky's grandfather's company) to American Express, where I am senior manager outsourcing. In my free time I serve as warden of a small Episcopal Church and I am (slowly) working toward a second master's (in accounting) at Western Connecticut State University, all of which was easily predictable to those of you who listened to my late night radio shows on WFRD."

Gerard Kelly and his wife, Eileen, also celebrated the birth, last August, of their third child, Martin Keegan Kelly. He joins Elizabeth 6 and Nicholas 3. Gerard is still living in Wilmette, I11., and working for the law firm of Sidley and Austin, where he's been a partner since 1994. "My practice," writes Gerard, "is focused in the oxymoronic area known as civil litigation. Lately I've seemed to develop a subspecialty in traveling around the country (it has gotten to the point where I almost don't need an OAG to plan my trips). This has, you can imagine, made me wildly popular with Eileen, who is back working as assistant general counsel of Rodman and Renshaw, and gets the kids to herself the evenings I'm gone. This has, however, also resulted in my greatest literary achievement: I can recite Dr. Seuss's The Sneeches,The Zax, and Too Many Daves from memory over the telephone, complete with instructions to Elizabeth on when to turn the page."

Gerard, bless him, also passes on news of Julia Mueller, whom he saw on one of his trips to my neck of the woods. "I was inspired to look her up," he explained, "after renting Flesh and Bone (starring Julia, James Caan, Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid). Much to my surprise, there was Julia with a prominent role for the first 10-15 minutes of the film; James Caan then blows her away (I never liked him)." According to Gerard, Julia's also been in The Unbelievable Truth and a couple of Showtime movies, including one in which she plays Michael York's extraterrestrial almost girlfriend. "Things just don't quite work out," he (Gerard, not Michael York) explains.
