I recently received a nice note from former South Mass. neighbor Roger Witten. 1996 highlights for Roger include the izSth izSth anniversary of his marriage to Jill, daughter Wendy's graduation from Dartmouth and departure for France for a year of work preparatory to beginning studies at Columbia Law School, and daughter Kate's graduation from National Cathedral School and departure for Emory University in Atlanta. Roger is on a six month sabbatical from his work as head of the litigation group at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering. You'll find Roger and Jill recharging their batteries in the Stowe, Vt., area.
Earlier this year, Roger joined former roommate Ben Johnson for a reunion dinner in Brussels, Belgium.
Bill Kolasky, another former roommate, is one of Roger's partners at Wilmer, Cutler. Roger also reports bidding farewell to another denizen of So. Mass., Bill Adler, who relocated to California.
Warren Cooke's daughter Emily has been accepted into the Dartmouth class of 2000.I could tell from Warren's note that he was nothing short of ecstatic. Congratulations, Warren and Emily! Warren reports that he is still practicing financial law at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & Mcloy in New York and that he looks forward to having lots of pretexts for visiting Hanover.
I recently had a chance to chat with Dave Bergengren, of Northampton, Mass. Dave works in the Northampton office of the Springfield Union News. His favorite pastimes include playing tennis and writing fiction. He has written four novels.
Paul Rizzi has recently joined Merrimack County Savings Bank as executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Paul is responsible for implementing a strategic plan to diversity the bank's customer base and improve customer access. With a seven-month-old son, Paul thinks he may be the last member of the class to have a child. Looks like we'll need a children's program at our 30th Reunion. Paul reports seeing former roommate TomEnright regularly. According to Paul, Tom recently sold his title company.
Land Washburn has recently joined Industrial Indemnity Cos. of the Northwest as safety and health consulting specialist. A certified safety and health specialist, Land's previous positions include safety officer and consultant with Hurlen Construction Cos. of Seattle, Wash., marketing and operations roles with Fleming Steel Cos., and assistant to the mayor of Seattle. Land lives in Bellevue, Wash.
In Harrisburg, Penn., L. RobertAchenbach is making news as the state deputy health secretary for quality assurance and health planning. His responsibilities include health planning and overseeing the licensing and license renewal of Pennsylvania's health facilities, including hospitals, nursing homes, and health maintenance organizations.
After Dartmouth, Bob received his master's degree in social welfare from the University of Pennsylvania, spent 13 years as a practicing social worker in Philadelphia specializing in drug and alcohol counseling, served as director of human services for Schuykill County, and worked as a senior associate in a Philadelphia-based consulting firm.
Gary Horlick of the Washington firm of O'Melveny & Myers was named by the World Trade Organization in Geneva as one of five members of the Permanent Group of Experts established by the Uruguay Round GATT negotiation to deal with subsidies questions. He was elected as the group's first chairman.
