In early March, Clay Adams '93 and classmate Scott Molinaroti began a northbound hike of the Appalachian Trail. They were not the first Dartmouth graduate!, to attempta-thru hike of the 2,160 mile AT, but these two decided on an additional challenge: raising $50,000 for the American Cancer Society. Since the previous fall, the hikers and fellow '93 Jim Keating have been soliciting individual and corporate donations, developing a website, and planning day hikes along the AT's route. These day hikes allowed donors to get a feel for life on the trail. The New Hampshire day hike, at Mount Cardigan State Park just east of Hanover, was supported. by the Tucker Foundation, D.0.C., Greek system, and New England-based Dartmouth alumni. Blood's Seafood provided a barbecue for the hikers. The event helped push the total of pledges and donations over the $40,000 mark.
Once they reach the trail's end on Maine's Mount Kacahdin (which is expected to happen early this month), Adams and Molinaroli will be attending Tuck and Stanford, respectively, for MBAs.
