The Baker Bells made such an impression on Joe Marsh '47 during his nine years in Hanover-two as an undergrad and seven on the faculty that he spent almost 40 years working to bring a carillon to his current campus, at Concord College in West Virginia where he is president emeritus. In July he presented to Concord the Marsh Memorial Carillon. Of the 48 bells, the 1,881-pound No. 5 is of special interest. One side is the Dartmouth seal and the words, "The bells' of Dartmouth Library ring in my heart," and on the other: "Dedicated to the memory of two great presidents of Dartmouth College, Ernest Martin Hopkins and john Sloan Dickey. Together with my father they were my ideals as college presidents and inspired me to: do my best.""
