Sports Illustrated has dubbed Dartmouth the best school For winter sports—a place where students go to class in ski boots and frat brothers play ice hockey in the living room. The FiskeGuide to Colleges claims, "Dartmouth students are as bright as they come, but their intelligence tends to be used for figuring out how to be successful..." TheLos Angeles Times promises a diploma with "snob appeal."

How does Dartmouth play in your hometown? The Alumni Council wants to know. .

Gathering in Hanover in May, Council members held a "buzz session" about Dartmouth's image, generally agreeing that the word on the street is pretty good these days. Among the College's better known accomplishments: the applicant pool keeps getting stronger, student satisfaction is high, magazine ratings put Dartmouth among the best, and the Will to Excel campaign was a big success.
