Before heading to her new investment banking job on Wall Street, Big Green golfer Lauren Epstein 'OO paused to reflect on a standout career highlighted by her earning all Ivy and all-ECAC honors two times, as well as being named Northeast Rookie of the Year as a freshman. It wasn't always a breeze earning such accolades, given the weather she faced.
"We were playing in the Ivies sophomore year, and it was just pouring," Epstein recalls. With all her towels soaked, the New York native used the only thing available to keep her grips dry: her underwear. "Yeah, it's sort of fanny, but I played okay," she says with a laugh. "Still, when you keep pulling on them like that, it starts to hurt."
Obviously, this is a golfer who swings to the beat of a different drummer. Literally. Epstein, a member of the marching band, contends that her many hours pounding the small bass drum have paid off on the golf course. "Carrying that drum strengthens your back," she explains. "Andyour wrist and forearm muscles are integral to both drumming and golf, so the drumming actually helps my game." Is Tiger listening?
