It is a special occasion when I receive a long letter from someone in the class, and my thanks this month goes out to Sarah (Jacobson) Lennon. She writes: "I got married on June 7 to Alex Lennon (Harvard '91) and am in the nasty process of trying to change my name everywhere, so yesterday and today I did not exist at work on either of my computer systems! We were married at the Kent Manor Inn, in Stevensville, Md. (not far from Annapolis, but on the eastern shore of Maryland). It was two and a half years to the day since we first met in D.C., and a year to the day from when he proposed. Dartmouth attendees included bridesmaid Susan Klein and husband Matthew Nadler (they are living in NYC, and Sue just graduated from Cornell Veterinary School), Tracy Kavanaugh '91 and fiance Rob Walsh (living in Hanover), Ramzi Nemo and lovely wife Kim Pierce, Sarah Stearns (who is moving to Chicago at the end of June), and Tom Warren. As we had put the good weather request in a year ago, the weather was fabulous, mid-70s with a light breeze blowing off the water (we had the ceremony outside under an oak tree). Alex, as a surprise to me, arranged for the lead singer from a localband-gone-national called 'emmet swimming' to play and sing during the cocktail hour; we saw 'emmet swimming' on our first date. We honeymooned for two weeks in Greece, and it is probably the only time we will ever be able to take two fall weeks away from work! I am currrently working in the Pentagon, in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy and Threat Reduction, as a specialist for nuclear issues in the Cooperative Threat Reduction Policy Office. I work mainly with Russia (but also Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Georgia) on programs to assist them in dismantling their nuclear weapons and disposing of and safeguarding the fissile material from these weapons. I travel to Moscow on average every two months or so, for negotiations and technical discussions.
Alex is the deputy director of studies at a D.C. think-tank, the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He focuses on security issues in China, Japan, and Southeast Asia (most recently he has been busy with India and Pakistan)." Sarah's email addresses are: and.
The very same day that Sarah was standing under that oak tree, Becca MichaelsKornet must have been in the delivery room. John and Becca Michaels Kornet proudly announce the birth of their son, John Wing ("Jack") Kornet, born on June 7. Welcome to the world, Jack!
Six days later, on June 13, Kim Lewis and Brent Forester '88 welcomed son Rylan Lewis Forester into the world at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Rylan was born with a full head of hairmore, the doctors and nurses kidded, than his dad has. And now Kim and Brent's Bernese mountain dog Toby finally has a sibling!
I ran into Beca Solberg McPherson at Chicago's O'Hare airport in June, and we enjoyed catching up as we waited for our flights. Beca graduated from the University of Chicago's business school in 1995, had a little girl named Sidney in February 1997, stopped working for Honeywell after almost six years, and started a marketing and consulting job at home in Minneapolis.
Finally, it is never too late to report a good piece of news. This piece comes to us from 1986. After 12 years of digging, TedCarleton gleefully reports that at Montville High School in New Jersey, Mike Kanarick was the senior class runner-up in the categories "Best Dressed" and "Overall Best Guy," and was voted the "Number One Apple Polisher." Congratulations, Mike. Thanks, Ted. Send me your news—new or old. After all, "All the news, we print."
