Homecoming was another notable event for your class as the Dartmouth throng gathered in Hanover to celebrate once again the fellowship and memories that mean so much to us all. The parade on Friday night was spectacular as '56 played a major part riding in a hay wagon pulled by two vary large Vermont Clydesdales. The Dartmouth night speeches and bonfire once again demonstrated the high level of Dartmouth spirit. All this was preceded by sandwiches in Room 112 of the Inn. Saturday began with a class meeting attended by an overflow crowd in the Inn as President McKenna presided. He stressed that our emphasis in the future would be positive as we strive to help the college attain its goals. He emphasizes that the way to judge the college is to look at its product the kids and that, working in Hanover and seeing them daily, they are one terrific group of people. Jack Billhardt reported that our Alumni Fund giving was 7 percent better than our last nonreunion year, 1995, and that 27 new donors gave in '97 versus '96. The puzzling statistic, however, is that 67 classmates gave in '96 but chose not to contribute in '97. Wally Pugh reported that he is working to bring class widows into said that the class is solvent and working toward two $50,000 class scholarships by the year 2002. It was noted with regret that this was the first class meeting within memory without JoshHill in attendance, and the class sent condolences to Josh with regard to Barbara's serious illness. The meeting adjourned early in order to allow all to attend the football game with Harvard, which unfortunately turned out to be a thorough whipping by the Cantabs as they proceeded on their way to the Ivy League championship. Saturday night the class gathered once again in the Tavern at the Inn for a noble repast, background music by Fritz Simms, and a selection of a cappella delights by the singing group "Chords," of which a founding member is Hal Gordon's son Matt. Joel Ash presented his latest limerick; look for it here in next month's DAM. Seen at some or all of these events, with friends, wives, or family, were Ted Rowe, Fritz Simms, Larry Furrer,Tom Rosenwald, Pete Lauterbach, JoelAsh, Ken Bridge, Linc Spaulding, Jon Strong,Howard Sodokoff, Jack Billhardt, Bill Barrett, Wally Pugh, Dick Whitney, Bud Rosenthall, Leo McKenna, Tom Harper, Russ Brace, Hal Gordon, Buster Bud Allen, BobDanziger, Jack Wheatley and Mike Levy.
