Professor Leland "Doc" Griggs, class of 1902, taught science at Dartmouth from 1908 to 1948, often around a campfire or during a long hike. His son, David P. Griggs '52, has written a memorial to the scientist and scholar who developed the Outing Club, Canoe Club and Bait & Bullet. Students learned from him while playing with his pet wolf or eating steaks in the log cabin he built. "He was one of the best friends any student ever had," former N.H. Gov. Sherman Adams '20 once said. "He left a living memorial," says David Griggs. "He bequeathed to his boys and hundreds—maybe thousands—of Dartmouth men, a great love and understanding of the natural world around them."

And read these other books by Dartmouth authors:

"This multi-volume textbook is the most complete and comprehensive reference source in our specialty and represents a gold standard that no other text in the field approaches," according to the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Douglas L. Wheeler '59, author of "Fifty-Nine Remembers: A Fifties' Tribute to Dartmouth College" (Peter E. Randall Publisher).
