Like other World War II-era classes at Dartmouth, the class of' 44 was scattered lacross the world as many students left Hanover to contribute to the war effort overseas. But, with the completion of the Berry Library this summer, classmates will be able to return to a home of their own.

The class has raised $560,000 for the "Class of '44 Place," a large study area that will encompass the top floor of the new library. "We sawit as a way for our class to honor classmate JohnBerry and recognize all that he has done for the College," said class president Eric Barradale '44. Berry, who died in May 1998, contributed $30 million toward construction of the new library.

Nearly 190 classmates and 20 widows have contributed to the room, which will feature glass walls facing the hills and mountains north of Hanover. "It's beengreat to see our class rally like this so long after leaving Hanover," said Barradale.
