Bob Glovsky, nationally recognized financial planner and radio "stock jock" advisor, is heading a fee-only financial planning subsidiary of the Boston law firm of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo. Bob's desceased father was the named partner of the firm. After graduating with a J.D. from Boston University Law School, where he later earned a LL.M., Bob began his financial planning career at the accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand. He later
worked for the Boston insurance agency of Downing and Desautels before going into private practice. Most recently he headed the financial planning subsidiary of Tofias, Fleishman, Shapiro in Boston.
In 1991 Bob began his weekday threehour radio show on Boston's WHDH. When WHDH went "all-sports," Bob moved to WBNW. When WBNW changed its orientation to religion, Bob moved to WKRO, but not before trying unsuccessfully to convince the station that "Money is a lot of people's religion." Dow Jones Investment Advisor spotlighted him last fall when he started up Mintz Levin Financial Advisors. With 600 clients on board, the firm is still seeking more. Although Bob's advice is given away over the airwaves, new clients of the firm's management must meet the $1-million account threshold. As for me, I'11 just have to keep listening to the radio.
Last year we mentioned that Jim Ryan was the webmaster of the Dartmouth College Club of New York City. Without a doubt Jim is a wizard of the web but he has moved up to the presidency of the N.Y.C. club. If you are an officer of a Dartmouth Club anywhere near N.Y.C., you may already have received Jim's impressive mailing touting the advantages of membership in the N.Y.C. club that shares a 22-story clubhouse with The Yale Club of N.Y.C. at 50 Vanderbilt Ave. You'll find the nonresident membership rates attractive in light of the facilities that are available. Visit the club's website at www.dartmouthclub.com.
James Vincent is the newly elected president of the board of the Urban League of Rhode Island. He has worked professionally in housing and community development in Rhode Island and in Massachusetts. Jim currently serves as manager of constituent advocacy for the Rhode Island Housing and Mortgage Finance Corp., providing outreach and technical assistance to under-served communities.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Frederick Meyer presented a seminar on "Investment Strategies: How the Pros Do It" in Atlanta last fall. Fritz is vice president of Invesco Funds Group of Denver, Colo. He is also co-manager for the Invesco Growth and Income Fund that concentrates on large-capitalization stocks. Fritz has been in the investment industry for more than 20 years after receiving an M.B.A. from Tuck. Before joining Invesco in 1996, he was an executive vice president and portfolio manager with Nelson, Benson & Zellmer in Denver, where he and wife Melanie live.
Please send me financial advice or news of classmates so I can cut back on radio listening and newspaper reading.
