Dr. Laura Weylman and her husband, David Turner, have joined the staff of the Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, N.Y., as family practitioners. Laura and David met while both were attending Dartmouth Medical School, and chose the hospital because it met the criteria they laid out when they completed their residencies: rural, mountainous and equidistant between his family in eastern Ohio and hers in Boston. Their first experience at the hospital was the birth of their daughter Laura on August 27.
Anne-Marie (Weldon) Keane has been named to the newly created position of vice president, business-to-business electronic commerce of Staples Inc. Formerly Staples' vice president of contract marketing, AnneMarie will now lead the strategy, development and implementation of customized business-to-business e-commerce solutions for medium-to-large-sized contract business customers. In addition, she will manage the introduction of StaplesLink.com, the company's new e-commerce website. AnneMarie joined Staples in 1992 and has held several positions within the company's marketing, merchandising and strategy organiza tions. Prior to joining Staples she was a consultant at Monitor Cos. in Cambridge, Mass., where she assisted Fortune 500 companies in creating winning retail and marketing strategies. Anne-Marie earned her M.B.A. from Harvard and currently resides in Weston, Mass., with her husband and two children.
Tina Rutnik was recently appointed as a member of the Purchase College Council, an advisory board under the provisions of N.Y. state education law that meets once a month and whose members are appointed by the governor. Tina lives in Larchmont, N.Y., and is a litigation associate with Davis Polk and Wardwell in New York City. She was formerly a clerk for the Hon. Roger J. Miner, U.S. Court of Appeals, 2nd Circuit. Tina serves on the board of directors for Hope New York City and the YMCA Health and Education Advisory Council and is a member of the Women's Leadership Forum. She earned her law degree at UCLA School of Law.
Dr. Lara Baker Whelan has joined the faculty of Berry College as assistant professor of rhetoric and writing. She is part of Berry's new rhetoric and writing depart ment, designed to help the college's firstyear students build a strong base for writing. Lara earned a master's degree from King's College of the University of London in 1993, and a doctorate from the University of Delaware in 1999. Previously she served as a teaching assistant in the departments of English and women's studies at the University of Delaware, as well as the university's writing center. She is a member of die Modern Language Association, and she has received the University of Delaware competitive fellowship for dissertation research in 1995 and several University of Delaware Center for Teaching Excellence grants to develop web-based courses. She has one daughter, Bonnie Victoria.
