Pretty good turnout for the Tuck School 50 th reunion with Lee Bronson, Ort Hicks, Quentin Kopp, Carll Tracy, Paul Woodberry, Tom Swartz, Jay Urstadt and Doug Thomson all in attendance. This was May 18 and it snowed all day, just like one old Green Key day I remember. Speaking of Green Key and the great music of that time, how's this bit of trivia? When Gershwin's Girl Crazy opened in 1930, Ethel Merman stopped the show, but the pit orchestra included Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa, Jimmy Dorsey and Glen Miller. Ray Powers was up in Hanover this spring for the Hopkins Center weekend via his continued work out of New York as a literary agent. You may recall that Ray served as publicity agent for the Winter Carnival during his undergraduate days and continued that line of work, eventually representing celebrities like Gena Rowlands, Jane Fonda and a slew of other stars and authors. Dud Bursch was basking in the reflections from space as his son, Dan, was a crew member of the long orbit on the shuttle Endeavor, continuing construction of the space station in conjunction with the Russians. Meanwhile, Jay Evans made headlines in the local paper as he completed his 100 th 5K race. Jay is a regular in the sports section as he usually puts in the best times for his age group and, I must say, it's quite an accomplishment, especially given that Jay has done much of this after a heart attack. George Hartmann, our treasurer, is cooking the books with one leg up after a recent knee replacement. That surgery was not the first at the hospital, or the last, or the longest, but it sure had to be the highest. lime to sign up for the mini-reunion, October 11-14, for the Yale game. Punch Thomas (802) 640-2100 is running this shindig for the last time. After some 35 years, he reluctantly is giving the job over to John Stearns. Given the number of fatal moose collisions in New Hampshire and Vermont this year, we have to keep the Bull Moose off the road or give the job back to Punchy. Vail Haak, bless his heart, has agreed to serve as chair for our 55th reunion. President Ray Truncellito is one of the great sweet talkers of all time to convince John and Vail to undertake these jobs. Keep your eye out for the newsletter details for planned '49 trips in 2003 to the Caribbean, Herb Gramstorff and Johnny Everatt the plotters, and Costa Rica, with Punchy Thomas holding his umbrella aloft. Many of you will remember with fondness professor John Finch from those early English classes. John, a versatile teacher, play-wright and crossword puzzle constructor, died recently at age 90.

The class will again contribute funds to the Tucker Foundation to support the summer program to bring young high school students to the College, to be counseled by Dartmouth undergraduates as they are exposed to college level learning and living. Mike McGean and Bob Nutt are up and around again after their illnesses, Mike skating around, of course, and Bob scraping around the course.
