The Arts and Sciences Graduate Alumni Association at Dartmouth (ASGAAD) presented its third annual poetry reading on Saturday, February 8, during Winter Carnival Weekend. This year the celebration of poetry was held in the activity room at Wheelock Terrace, an assisted living facility in Hanover. We hoped to gain a new perspective by sharing our favorite poems and our own writing and by inviting the residents to do the same. I believe I speak for all the participants in saying that the experience was much more moving and enriching than we had imagined. Claire Brown (MALS '97), Judy Chypre (MALS '99), Nancy lott (MALS '92) and Nance Silliman '95 (MALS '96) all read forus. The residents of Wheelock Terrace were joined by the friends and family of Barbara Wells, who had recendy died after spending the last several years of her life at the facility. She was an accomplished poet, and everyone had a turn at reading her poems on nature, family, life, and aging. Needless to say, it turned out to be an emotional afternoon. We would like to organize another reading at Wheelock Terrace in the spring. If you have an interest in this project, please call Nance Silliman at (603) 646-3651.

Kofi A. Cash (ECS '01) recently accepted a position as cardiovascular outcomes coordinator for Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno, California. The mission of the medical center is to provide state-of-the-art care, balancing technology and research interests with the delivery of both excellent clinical outcomes and personalized patient care. Kofi's primary responsibility in supporting this goal is to work with physicians to ultimately improve the quality of life for cardiovascular patients. Work on his masters degree included a concentration in health policy, and he.is pleased that his new position allows him to use the principles and methodology he learned at Dartmouth. Kofi relocated to California from Detroit, Michigan, where he was a project coordinator for Health Alliance Plan, a premier managed care organization.

Alexander Hernandez-Siegel (MALS '99) is employed at Dartmouth as assistant dean of student life and advisor to Latino students. His vision is to see more Latinos moving into leadership roles. He feels he can bring this about by helping students take advantage of the resources at Dartmouth to individually create the best possible experience here. He sees diversity as a mosaic, with too many pieces currently left out of what could be a beautiful whole. Alex earned his MALS degree while he was an employee at Dartmouth. He feels this was not only a very rewarding experience, but it also gave him a perspective on college life that he uses in his work.
