Betsy and I just returned from a holiday in France, having taken a barge trip through the wine country of Burgundy quite similar to the one which Don and Louise McCorkindale took earlier this year. We flew to Paris, enjoyed a few days in that magical city, then the TGV to Dijon, were we boarded our barge for a sixday cruise along the canals and the river Saone before returning to Paris and our flight home. We enjoyed this immensely and would recommend it as a restful, laid-back, and fascinatingly different experience. It is, of course, that time of year and so we are pleased to offer the greetings of our class president: "To '43 Classmates and Wives: I can't believe I'm writing this holiday message a couple of days after Labor Day with temperature in the 80s, but the deadline for these Class Notes is September 15. Since the College year ended June 301 wanted all of you to know our class completed another very successful year. Once again with Bud Kast's leadership we exceeded our Alumni Fund goal—this time by $5,000. Our class contribution to the Native American Program through the Henry Perley Eagle Internship funded two Native American students—one with California Indian Legal Services and the other with Native American families in New Mexico. The class also became a Dartmouth Athletic Sponsorhelping Dartmouth coaches in their recruiting efforts. We are now one of 24 classes to become sponsors. And, finally, we had fun at three mini-reunions: in Hanover, on Cape Code, and in Harbor Ridge, Fla. So, on behalf of your class officers I say 'Thank you' and we send you warm greetings for the holidays. Stay well and make a note that our 55th Reunion is only 18 months away—June 1517, 1998. Happy Holidays. Bob."
