The class of 1989 has a new Web site, again! We're working with a company founded by two Dartmouth alums (one is the brother of Eric Berlin) to provide many new features. Our class is also testing a new site called My Dartmouth, where you can pick which Dartmouth and non-Dartmouth news you want to see (club news, CNN headlines, etc). Log on to www.dartmouth89.org to see the new '89 site and to access My Dartmouth.
At this point in our lives, we can either start to slowly slide our way toward middle age or we can get up and get moving. Here are two stories to inspire you toward the latter.
Catherine Truman writes that she started rowing six years ago, continues to compete and won gold at the Canadian Henley in the 4+. This past October she came in third in the masters women's single event at the Head of the Charles, medaling and qualifying for next year. When she's not on the river Catherine is an architect in Boston at Ann Beha Architects, specializing in high-end residential and preservation projects.
In other tales from the athletically inspired, Jamie Kershaw reports that he and Anne Gazzaniga recently ran the New York City Marathon. Jamie writes that it was Anne's "fourth or fifth year in a row and my first in N.Y.C. Anne was a star and finished in 4:30. I took 5:13. At mile 18 I thought I was having a stroke but it passed. And as ridiculous as this may sound, everyone should run the N.Y.C. marathon. Truly amazing." According to Jamie, Anne has now moved to Phoenix, Arizona, to work at Arizona State University after 15 years in New York City.
Jeremy Rider lives in Bethesda, Maryland, with his family and has recently returned to work at AIPAC as the new deputy director for communications.
Jill McClain writes that she was inspired by our summer wedding report to share some news of her own—her marriage to Randall Nortman, a youngster at age 30 when they married last summer. According to Jill, Randall is a computer geek who's starting his own business. Joining the festivities were Anne Boardman Pohnert, Jody Warden and Peter Monaco with his wife and four children. Other alums included Jeff Green '88, Ellie Hoch '87, and Anne's dad, Donald Boardman '65. Randy and Jill went to Peru for their honeymoon, which she says was really delightful. In her work life Jill is working toward a PhD in nutrition at UNC-Chapel Hill. She loves the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area and welcomes visitors.
Kenneth Horton has been appointed executive vice president, corporate development and general counsel for MDS Inc., a "global, values-driven life sciences company that provides a diverse range of superior products and services to increase our customers' speed, precision and productivity in the drug-development and disease-diagnosis processes," according to its press release. Ken previously worked at Perkin Elmer Inc. and practiced corporate law in Boston.
In other news from the world of press releases, Anne Moellering has been appointed vice president of U.S. marketing for Planet Out Inc., a global media and entertainment company serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. The company calls Anne a "seasoned marketer with 15 years of experience in consumer brand and product marketing." Most recently "she was director of marketing at My Points, driving subscription acquisition for the Internet's foremost loyalty points program. She also held director roles at e-retailer Fogdog Sports and at video giant Sega, where she managed hardware and software marketing as well as the licensed sports business, driving contract negotiations with the four major professional sports leagues." They also described her as "an avid surfer, skier, climber and mountain biker [and] the co-founder and president of the 700- member NorCal Women's Surf Club." Surfing? Way to go, Anne.
