John Mac Govern 'BO, founder of theHanover Institute, has filed suit against the Dartmouth Alumni Association in Grafton, New Hampshire, Superior Court. According to court documents, the suit alleges that the association applied a "self-serving guideline" to deny proxy voting in the association's officer elections in October 2005. The suit requested a restraining order against the application of a similar ban at the association's February 12 meeting to consider all media voting. No hearing had been scheduled as of press time.
College heating costs of $580,915 forthe second half of 2005 increased more than 20 percent over the same period in 2004, according to Woody Eckels, residential operations director.
Researchers at Dartmouth MedicalSchool have discovered how the bacteria that causes cholera spreads in the environment. "Now that we know what the bacterium attaches to in the intestine, we can find ways to block that initial contact," says Dr. Ronald Taylor, professor of microbiology and immunology at DMS who led the research and hopes it will lead to a more effective cholera vaccine.
The Office of Alumni Relations has officially recognized the Dartmouth Association of Latino Alumni (DALA) as the fifth affiliated group of Dartmouth alumni. DALA president Natalie Garza '98 says the group's goals include "increasing scholarship funding for Latino students, mentoring and recruiting Latino students for Dartmouth, expanding the number of regional events to reconnect our alumni with each other and with the College, and fostering stronger ties between undergraduates and alumni." The group will be involved in the New England Latino Leadership Conference to be held at the College in April.
