Alas, I spoke too soon in reporting the bliss I'd found with Brooklyn in my last column. After an end-of-summer fiasco in which a sleazy real estate broker played a key role, Brooklyn and I have broken our engagement. While we continue to see each other regularlyoh , say every weekday from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m., when I attempt to lead its children to college—I am officially declaring myself back on the open market. Fortunately for me, Manhattan seems same for a fun fall fling.
Other 'o2s saw changes of scenery as the summer came to a close. Asa Tapley wrapped up a summer of investigative work with the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. He and his girlfriend Lauren (Tufts '03) lived in Adams Morgan this summer, not far from Page Kyle and Asa's brother Adam Tapley '03. He also reports a run-in with Vicki McGrane and Dave Scannell at Filene's Basement, where he learned that Vicki is working for Congressional Quarterly and Dave is starting his secondyearat UVA Law Asa will start his last year at Harvard Extension School this fall, taking classes and completing a teaching fellowship in physics, before applying to med school next summer. Lizzy Carroll recently finished up the summer at Bread Loaf School of English, an English masters program through Middlebury. She enjoyed catching up with Teresa Harings and Erkki Mackey up at the Vermont campus. This fall she will start her second year teaching 11th- and 12th grade English at Josiah Quincy Upper School, a public pilot school in Boston. Brett Quimby just moved to Santa Monica, California, with Chuki Lord and Aimee Barnes 'O4. He's busy working multiple jobs while trying to get an agent, write a script and convince Eli Jorne that he really can sing backup to "Sweet Child O' Mine" at karaoke. Brett is sorry he wasn't able to make reunion, but looks forward to making fun of Lonnie Threatte at the 10-year.
Elizabeth Badger wrote in right before heading to Dubrovnik, Croatia, for five days of beach vacation and then flying to Munich, Germany, to cheer on John Nichols 'O1 in the World Rowing Championship. Sylvie Liberman has recently moved from San Francisco to New York City to work for West Elm, an emerging brand owned by Williams-Sonoma. She reports seeing quite a bit of Jamie Merriman, who did an internship between years at Wharton Business School. One of their adventures landed them in the middle of a very popular, crowded, volleyball-loving nude beach in Sandy Hook, New Jersey. Awesomevery sorry I missed that. Sylvie also spent time with Rohin Dhar, who recently graduated from Stanford Business School and is now running a start-up company from his basement.
Look at that—a whole column chock-full of news without a single announcement of engagement wedding or baby! Let these fine'02s who dutifully wrote to me with updates even when there was none of the huge stuff to report be role models to you all! Drop me a line.
