Winter wanes and spring starts. The Dartmouth Skiway celebrated its 50th anniversary this winter. The original Holt's Ledge poma lift has given way to a chair lift and Winslow Mountain boasts a quad chair. As of 1985 snowmaking covers 64 percent of the Skiway s 104 skiable acres. In 2000 the McLane Family Lodge opened.
This year marks the 40 th anniversary of the first language study abroad (LSA) program, started by professor John Rassias in 1967 with a session in Bourges, France. Today Dartmouth offers LSA programs in Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Russia and Spain. When coupled with other foreign study programs, there are a total of 43 different programs in more than 20 countries and more than 50 percent of students participate.
Michael Tracy has been named a Montgomery Fellow for 2007.Along with Jonathan Wolken '71 and Robby Barnett '72, Michael is an artistic director of Pilobolus, an internationally known touring company that was the subject of a feature profile on 60Minutes in 2004. The three artistic directors will hold a public panel discussion on campus in early April. Also in April Dartmouth will celebrate the transferof the Pilobolus archives to the Rauner Special Collections Library by holding a symposium on the history of modern dance and the use of dance archives, and two Pilobolus performances at the Hopkins Center. The groups innovative choreography was described last fall by the Chicago Sun Times as "gymnastics, burlesque, modern dance and the human equivalent of claymation."
Those in the Osterville and Hyannis, Massachusetts, area can find the Rev. Andrew Johnson as the parochial vicar at Our Lady of the Assumption Church and as the Catholic chaplain at Cape Cod Hospital.
This is the second academic year for Randy Spydell at Western State College of Colorado, in Gunnison, where he is the chief information officer and director of computing, media and telecommunications as well as an adjunct instructor of earth science. In his spare time he enjoys motorcycle touring, "kid activities" and the Web.
