Hail, noble '72s, far and wide!

With great humility your newly reelected class scribe addresses you not for the last time, but rather for the first in what I pray may be another five years of columns celebrating good health and prosperity for us all.

First, we have updates among the officers leading our class for the next five years. John Burke has assumed the mantle of presidency, aided by the most worthy Bill Schur in the VP role. Chip Carstensen has graciously agreed to stay on as keeper of the coffers, while our esteemed brother Shel Prentice has become our head agent. And Marc Josephson will continue the outstanding work he did as our reunion Webmaster to keep our cyberspace the happening place! I bid a fond farewell, but only in titles, to Jon Einsidler and Hans Stumm, with a sincere thanks from all of us for their outstanding service and a personal thanks for their mentoring and patience.

My esteemed co-scribe John Rockwell will undoubtedly have plied you with a glorious account of our just-concluded reunion before this reaches publication, so I'll only briefly dwell on the fond memories. Under the able leadership of chair John DeRegt about 105 of our brothers, families and friends gathered in Hanover, where good cheer was in abundance. It was hard to believe five years had passed since we last gathered. The blend of familiar and not-so-familiar faces, old friendships renewed and new ones kindled, against the beautiful backdrop of our campus made for a splendid time. As one who is blessed with living nearby and working at the College I was particularly warmed to see the favorable re-action of our brothers who were marveling at the many positive changes in the physical appearance of the place. Yet for all these changes, if you stand on the Green and take in a panoramic view of your surroundings, you will see the Dartmouth of our day. Clever—and respectful—these planners!

I'd like to take a moment to welcome our newest co-scribe Charlie Schudson, (highroad@ wi.rr.com), who will be sharing this column and John's newsletter for the next few years. In the natural evolution of things, we hope to pass the quill to Charlie for one post or the other at the next election, thus building continuity in class news reporting. In the meantime, we hope you will get in touch with any or all of us with your news, views and accomplishments so we may, in turn, share them with the rest of our class. And yes, this is an unabashed plea for you to take a few minutes and fill us in on your life and times!

For now, I hope this finds you well and at peace, enjoying the dog days of summer with family, friends and loved ones. For myself, I shall be found plying the placid waters of the fair Connecticut River in a boat.

Yours always in green.
