Jonathan Bagger' 77 professor and chair of the physics and astronomy department at Johns Hopkins University, has been appointed vice provost for graduate and postdoctoral programs and special projects.
Tim Golden '8, seniorwriter for The NewYork Times, presented the 2008 Joe Alex Morris Jr. Memorial Lecture at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard in February. Golden has written on the treatment of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba (and at U.S. run prisons abroad in Afghanistan) and has been recognized for his balanced portrayal of the U.S. military's tactics in dealing with prisoners that have resulted from broader American policies.
Gregory Maffei '82, president and CEO of Liberty Media Corp. in Englewood, Colorado, has been named the 2007 Communications Executive of the Year by the professional organization Communications Technology Professionals. Maffei previously worked as president and CFO of Oracle Corp. and as senior vice president and CFO of Microsoft Corp.
Alexander Rundlet '92, a litigation attorney for the Miami law firm Podhurst Orseck, was elected treasurer of the Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. Bar Association. Formerly known as the Black Lawyers Association, the group provides mentoring and financial assistance to law students in Florida.
Scott Given '02 is the principal of Bostons Excel Academy, a public middle school named 2007 National Charter School of the Year by the Center for Education Reform.
Mike Mothner '03, who founded the online marketing firm Wpromote as a sophomore at Dartmouth, was ranked on Inc. magazine's CEOs Under 30 list. The Los Angeles-based Wpromote was honored as the 62nd fastest growing private company on the annual Inc. 500.
