Had a bittersweet call from Mai Gelof to say good-bye. Said he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given three months to live. Two days after I spoke to him the phone rang and it was his daughter calling to tell me that he had died. What a shock. Enjoy going to paradise and hooking up with Helen, Mai. Give her my love.
Spoke with Arline Marantz. She is doing well but Lee passed away in January. He was working till the day he died. As the days dwindle down to a precious few, more bad news. We lost five more classmates—Monnie Hattenbach died in January, Grant Herman in March, Fred O'Brien on January 11, John Wallace on March 5, and Bob Lowell on March 5. According to Bill Adams, who still shoots a 52 for nine holes, there are still 69 of us left.
Heard from Renee Silberman, widow of Hal. Says her life is great but heard that Al Brush is not doing well. I tried, but could not contact him. Hang in there, Al.
Had a wonderful talk with Jim Hughes. Lives in the Hanover area. Still plays golf and leads a terrific life...interested in the alumni elections.
No Green Cards for me or your new Tear Bag editor. Are the rest of you dead?
Just spoke to Walt Petke, who sounded great. Then daughter Suzie got on the phone to say he is in perfect health outside of a slight case of dementia. I don't remember what that is, but I'm sure I don't have it. Walt is 99 years old, takes long walks everyday, attends college with Suzie and enjoys life. Can any of you beat that?
