Regardless of your opinion on the outcome, it is a relief that the interminable 2008 presidential race is finally over. But our campaign efforts are just getting under way. No, this is not a plea for money. Rather, we are in the early stages of identifying the next classmate(s) among you to assume the mantle of class secretary after our 25th reunion in June 2010. John and I have not discussed this at length; however, since we had "temporarily" assumed these duties upon graduation, we are both thinking that after almost 25 years at the task (and not a single column ever missed, we might add) it is time to hand over our pens.
Advance planning, you say? Perhaps— but why not get our house in order before the U.S. government steps in and bails us out? Isn't that the trend these days? While we certainly cannot be accused of over-leveraging our news sources or misleading our readers, we've made no secret about the challenge of gathering news. Maybe the U.S. government could do a better job? Let's throw in the towel to the U.S. taxpayer. They could even add the resources of the FBI and the CIA—would that get some of you to talk?
Times are tough, though. So, in the interest of full disclosure of the role, you should know that, thanks to the financial meltdown of September 2008, all those stock options John and I received while dutifully serving as your class secretaries are now worthless. We also understand the retirement package no longer includes health coverage through Dicks House. Still, we are not bitter. Rather, we are confident that fresh eyes and renewed energy will delve deeper into the realm of our untapped classmate databank and spew forth ever more interesting columns, bursting with information.
Such as the update from David Mcllwain. David and wife Ann Marie have been living for the past 12 years in Summit, New Jersey, with their son Russell (10) and daughter jenny (5). David comments that living anywhere for a 12-year tenure seems very odd having moved around quite a bit prior to marriage, with stints in New York, Chicago, Argentina, London and Japan in the course of working in emerging markets, pharmaceuticals, a few start-ups and structured investments. Oh, and don't let me forget to mention that David earned his M.B.A. along the way. Between work, kids, helping with Cub Scouts and a bit of recreation, life is good.
Mike Oniskey (moniskey@storagebunker. com) has lived in Reading, Massachusetts, for the past 20 years (sorry, David, looks like Mike beats your homesteading record) with his wife, Carol, and kids Micayla (15) and Tucker (14). Mike operates a self-storage business but still manages to find plenty of time for ice hockey and occasionally finds himself rowing in a shell when the organizer of a boat is short a few rowers. He was last seen in the 2007 Head of the Charles—no details on outcome of the race or if he was invited back last year.
Allison Shutz Moskow commemorated with her husband, Keith '83, the unveiling last September of the Logan Airport 9/11 Memorial 2-acre park, with its 400-square-foot focal point, "Place of Remembrance." While designed by Keith and his partner, Robert Linn, we all know that the muse behind Keiths architectural inspiration remains our charming, intelligent and witty classmate Allison. Busy juggling life in Newton, Massachusetts, with Zach, Jake and baby Ava, Allison manages to also find time to tend to a menagerie of four-footed friends as well.
Now, raise your hand for class secretary! All the best to all of you!
