Blake Billings, Ph.D, sent me this link from the May 5, 2008, edition of Dong-A Ilbo, one of Korea’s leading papers, that includes a page two article about his family and a great photo: www.donga.com/fbin/output?sfrm=1&n=200805050070 Luckily, he also included the English translation titled, “We Saved for Korea Instead of Disneyland,” about a Billings, Montana, family trip to Korea in the spring of 2008 to learn more about Korean culture. Blake, who received his doctorate in philosophy from Louvain, Belgium, teaches humanities and directs student volunteers at Portsmouth Abbey School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. He and his wife, psychologist Jillian Fenton, adopted their eldest, Fen (Han Sang-Min, 11) in 1997. In 1998 they welcomed John (Mo Hyun-Shik, 10), followed by Lucia (Kim Eun- Hee, 8) in 2000 and Teresa (Ahn Hee-Jin, 5) in 2003. As the article explains, both parents feel strongly that the two nationalities of their children be blended and that the children are imbued with a sense of pride in both. The family celebrates both Korean and American holidays. They also cook Korean foods and the children retain their Korean names.

Here in the United States Holly Dustin is back in Hanover, working with Ledyard Financial Advisors as a financial advisor; previously Holly was the director of major and planned giving at Vermont Law School, her alma mater after Dartmouth. "Yes, I am delighted to have returned to Hanover," writes Holly. "I am working in wealth management, helping our clients achieve their financial goals while addressing many estate and tax planning issues. I have seen Patsy Fisher as well as Pat Berry and Sally Johnson when they were up over Homecoming weekend." Sally and Holly "got to play tennis just before the sun set on Friday night."

Since 2004 Allen Smith, M.D., M.S., has been at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, where he is president of the 1,200-member Brigham and Women's Physicians Organization. "I love the job," says Allen, "and think it is an amazing institution with some incredibly bright, mission- oriented people." Allen is married to Denise DuChainey, whom he met in college; they have daughter Caroline at Mount Holyoke, Denises alma mater, and three sons still at home—Conner, Ian and Tim. Allen keeps close tabs on Brian Mooney, Sean Bersell, Jon Cohen, Dennis Ryan, Tom Bell and Phil Jacobs.

Lon Povich has been executive vice president, general counsel and secretary of BJ's Wholesale Club since June 2007. Previously he was vice president and general counsel of the Boston Consulting Group Inc. Lon seems to have successfully made the transition from "consulting to paper towels," as he puts it. After work this winter Lon has been spending time campaigning for his wife, Ilissa, who is running for school committee in their hometown of Wellesley, Massachusetts. Lon and Ilissa have children Emily, a senior, and Steven, a freshman, both at Wellesley High.

Congratulations to Karen McKeel Calby, the first member of our class to receive the Dartmouth Alumni Award! Karen, whose significant volunteer service to the College includes a term as Alumni Council president, received her award at the December 2008 council meeting.

If we have to turn 50 this year lets celebrate together—mark your calendars for Homecoming Weekend October 23-24, when Patsy Fisher, Lynne Gaudet and Alex Doty will host a class 50th birthday bash dinner and celebration in Hanover. More details to follow in the coming months.

Finally, it is with sadness that I report the death of Shari Zimble on October 23, 2008, after a long struggle with cancer. Our sympathies go out to Shari's husband, Mark Paley, and children Davin and Risa.
