All arts and sciences graduate alumni are invited to march in the Dartmouth Night parade on Friday, October 29. The MALS Alumni Association will be hosting a works-in-progress session and a wine and cheese reception in the 1930 room at the Rockefeller Center. All MALS alumni, current students and faculty are invited to attend. Four students will present thesis work and respond to feedback from the audience. After the program we will go directly to our place in the parade. Please call the MALS office, (603) 646-3592, for details and the time. We would like to have a large, enthusiastic crowd for the events.

The MALS Alumni Association held its annual luncheon and open meeting on July 14 in the Hanover Inn. Richard Stamelman, executive director of the Montgomery Endowment ment and adjunct professor of cultural studies and comparative literature in the MALS program, was the guest speaker. His presentation was titled “Making Scents: Perfumes and the Stories They Tell.” The large group of students, faculty and alumni really enjoyed his entertaining talk and slide show, which included some amazing perfume ads. A record number of alumni attended. Among them were Michael Beahan (MALS’97), the association president; Ben Bolger (MALS’04), who drove up from Virginia for the event; Stephan Cantor (MALS’08); Judy Chypre (MALS’99); Effie Cummings (MALS’07); Sean Compas (MALS’10); Susan Doheny (MALS’01); Lonnie Edwards (MALS’08); Janet Elro (MALS’10); Kathy Fortin (MALS’07); Reesa Guerrero (MALS’10); Sandy Harris (MALS’81); Grace Hill (MALS’75); Joan Kersey (MALS’96); Lyn Lord ’95 (MALS’98); Anna Minardi (MALS’10); Maggie Montgomery (MALS’99), the coordinator of the luncheon; Phyllis Nemhauser (MALS’03); Wole Ojurongbe (MALS’09); Margret Richard (MALS’85); Nancy Silliman ’95 (MALS’96); Allen Sherman (MALS’04); and Joan Tomasi (MALS’77).
