The snow sculpture, which was a replica of the castle from 100 years ago, was a welcome site to all alumni who attended Club and Affiliated Group Officers Weekend (CAGOW) during the 100th anniversary of Winter Carnival. The weekend could not have started better as a group of alumni volunteers sat in 105 Dartmouth Hall on Friday to listen to President Kim speak. His enthusiasm and love for Dartmouth resonated through the crowd and he spoke in a conversational tone with humor and honesty that was so refreshing.

Saturday morning began with breakfast with Harry Sheehy, director of athletics and recreation. After breakfast the alumni volunteers were treated to various presentations of unique campus resources. Jane Parkin Kullman '01 remarked, "I really enjoyed the 'Secret Sources' session, where I got to learn all about the Colleges electron microscope facility—definitely a thrill for a scientist such as myself!" The afternoon was filled with informative sessions including one centered around club size. Jim Felter '74 commented, "It is a big help to hear about some of the activities and projects other clubs around the country are doing. The speakers were all excellent and informative."

Although the weekend was packed full of activities, there was time for the alumni volunteers to take advantage of Winter Carnival weekend, including attending basketball and ice hockey games, taking students to eat and watching the sled races on the Green. Howard Hodel '75 from the Dartmouth Club of Hawaii was thrilled that he "had the opportunity to take three Oahu students out to dinner" and noted that "CAGOW was wonderful again. The time with professors was especially inspiring, as was the Saturday (awards) dinner, the Hill Winds event and the energy and enthusiasm of the alumni relations staffstudents and CAGOW participants."

The dinner and awards gala on Saturday night was the ending event for the weekend and clubs, affiliated groups, and officers were celebrated for all of the hard work they had done throughout the year. The following awards were given: Small Club of the Year was the Dartmouth Club of the Gulf Coast; Medium Club of the Year was the Dartmouth Club of Orange County; Large Club of the Year was the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Silicon Valley; Metro Clubs of the year were the Dartmouth Club of Boston and the Dartmouth Club of Greater San Francisco; Club Presidents of the Year were Mabelle Hueston '86, Dartmouth Club of Orange County, and James von Rittmann '95, Dartmouth Alumni Association of Silicon Valley; Affiliated/Shared Interest Group of the Year was the Black Alumni of Dartmouth Association (BADA); and Affiliated/Shared Interest Group Officer of the Year was Alexandra Meise Bay '01 from the Dartmouth Lawyers Association.

There is no doubt that Dartmouth pride runs through all of the alumni volunteers, and the energy that they put in to celebrating Dartmouth with events throughout the world is truly outstanding. Jethro Rothe-Kushel '03, president emeritus of the Dartmouth Club of Los Angeles and president of the Dartmouth Alumni in Entertainment & Media Association, summed up the weekend perfectly by saying, "What a gift it is to return 'home' during Winter Carnival and celebrate, award and exchange experiences, tips and best practices with the best club, shared interest group and affiliated group officers from around the world."
