As the class of 2015 embarks on freshmen DOC trips and students head back to Hanover for the start of another academic year, alumni are reminded of the reasons they continue to tell Dartmouth stories. Current students are in the midst of creating their Dartmouth memories, and alumni will attest to how those memories will be shared for decades to come. Dartmouth alumni are so passionate about their alma mater, and clubs around the globe continue to display how they bleed green even throughout the summer months.
The Dartmouth Club of Suburban New Jersey held its annual club picnic in late June at Pleasant Valley Park. There were more than 50 attendees including current students and 10 members of the class of 2015. The event was organized by Jim Felter '74, who made the planning a true family event, as he was assisted by his wife, Susan Felter '76, and son Chad Felter '07. Jeff Dalhman '70 and Tom Swartz '49 were also instrumental in helping to make this event successful. Club president David Dietze '78 welcomed the '15s to the Dartmouth family and expressed that alumni "spirits were lifted up by the opportunity to meet in person and mingle with these extraordinary young people and their families. We have every confidence they will successfully make their marks on the Hanover plain and make their local N.J. communities proud." The club used its resources as current '14 Dartmouth parents Landon and Mia Prieur ran a meeting with the help of fellow '14 parents Pat Berry '81 and Diane Lubiak for the parents of incoming freshmen. This is a wonderful opportunity for new Dartmouth parents to meet and ask questions of those with valuable experience under their belt. Hats off to the Dartmouth Club of Suburban New Jersey for its efforts!
Another club that worked tirelessly this summer was the Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston. Jane Parkin Kullmann '01 organized ticket sales for the Boston Symphony Orchestra Spring Pops "Hooray for Hollywood" concert in May. Parkin Kullmann was excited to report that 104 people attended and "this was the largest group for a pops event yet!" With 26 tables full of club members and their family and friends, this was a gathering to remember. Boston welcomed the Big Apple Circus to the city in May and the club continued multi-year tradition of attending, thanks to Jennifer Bordeau '06, who organized a family-friendly outing. The Big Green Bus was also welcomed to Beantown and spent an afternoon at Boloco in Copley Square due in large part to the efforts of Chip Connor '85, Tu'87.
The Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston continued strong through July and August by organizing exciting events that appealed to a variety of alumni and their guests. Chrissy Pechter '06 and Ian Sarr '05 organized a young alumni happy hour at a local bar with an outdoor roof deck where attendees could enjoy a beautiful Boston summer night. Another tradition for this club is a summer cruise in Boston Harbor on the magnificent S/VRoseivciy. A longstanding connection that Connor has with the ship and crew enabled the club to offer this popular event again this summer. Connor also managed to get a group of tickets for three Red Sox games for the club, which is no small feat. These tickets are always a hot commodity and many in Boston would argue there is no better way to spend a summer afternoon or evening. The Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston is to be commended for all of its hard work throughout the summer to keep alumni connectetf to Dartmouth.
