The spring months brought cheer and excitement to clubs around the globe as students were admitted to the Dartmouth class of 2017. Howard Hodel '75, president of the Dartmouth Club of Hawaii, held an admitted students party at his home in Honolulu in early April. There were more than 40 guests, including two admitted students and their families. Hodel gives credit to Cathy Devaney '85 and Dan Devaney '84 for helping to make the event a success. The Dartmouth Club of Hawaii is now planning an event with the Native American Alumni Association of Dartmouth, which will be held on July 7 at the Manoa Heritage Center. This club continues its strong connection to Dartmouth and brings alumni and their guests together on a regular basis.
The Dartmouth Club of the Florida Keys is setting records as four students applied to Dartmouth this year, two were admitted and two were waitlisted. Club president Sidney Goldman '60 confirmed that one is already committed and will be a member of the Dartmouth class of 2017. Three book awards were hand delivered this spring and Goldman logged more than 120 miles to make the personal connection with the awardees. Now that is commitment! Goldman also noted that the club is looking forward to the Big Green Bus staying in Key West for four days during the Fourth of July weekend. There will be two presentations from the crew and both are open to the community. Keep an eye on this column so that you can read about the Big Green Bus' visit to the Dartmouth Club of the Florida Keys.
Ken Klemm '86, president of the Dartmouth Club of the Gulf Coast, shared the following event: "The Idea Village, a nonprofit organization with a mission to identify, support and retain entrepreneurial talent in New Orleans, held its fifth annual New Orleans Entrepreneur Week March 16-22. Again this year a group of students from the TUCK School of Business participated in this event. Kevin Wilkins '87 serves as the chief operating officer and an entrepreneur-in-residence for the Idea Village. To welcome the students to New Orleans, Richard Mumber, Tu'07, served as team captain and hosted a dinner for the students and local club members. Richard Tupler '84 also organized gift bags for the students to receive upon their arrival in New Orleans."
The always-active Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston has organized a variety of events since the fall to attract the diverse members of their club. In collaboration with the office of alumni relations, this club hosted Interim President Carol Folt in October and more than 300 alumni gathered for this event. The strength of the sporting events in this area brougnt together hundreds ol alumni and guests as the Dartmouth men's hockey team battled against Boston College. A co-hosted tent at the Head of the Charles offered "minireunion" opportunities. Club president William "Chip" Conner III '85, Tu'87, and his team do a fantastic job and there are several events in the upcoming months that will be a draw for alumni of all ages and their guests.
Far from the Dartmouth campus, Big Green pride still stays strong as the Dartmouth Club of Moscow hosts forums on a regular basis for its 34 alumni and their guests. This club most recently met up in the spring at the home of Tamara Smith '94 and her husband, Chris Smith '95. Club president Len Vindman '91 welcomes any alumni who will be in Moscow to contact him at lenvindman@gmail.com or Justin Varilek '11 at justinvarilek4@gmail. com.
