Hood Museum workers have packed and shipped more than half of the approximately 65,000 objects in the permanent collection in preparation for its coming $50-million renovation. In late winter this life-sized (6-foot-1) wood-and-plaster sculpture of Daniel Webster, class of 1801, headed for the exits in its own special crate. “Black Dan” will remain in an undisclosed climate-controlled facility until the museum reopens in 2019.
