I was excited to hear from Michelle (Stone) Bittner, who sent news from Alaska. Michelle has recently become an empty-nester and is using her extra time and legal skills to conserve and protect the wildlife of her beloved State of Alaska. Michelle recently won an appeal before the Alaska Supreme Court, which was the first decision to grant standing to an individual, non-consumptive user of wildlife to challenge a predator control program conducted by the Alaska Department of Fish & Game under which it has killed hundreds of bears and wolves in the range of the Mulchatna caribou herd in southwestern Alaska. She hopes to continue to use her legal work to protect and conserve the vast wild lands and fish and wildlife in Alaska, which are unique in the world.

Michelle writes, “I encourage anyone who travels to Alaska to look me up. I live in Anchorage and am rebuilding my house so there will be more room for guests. I can provide travel tips to places in Alaska where you will see scenery and wildlife that will be forever seared in your memories or take you on hikes in the Chugach Front Range.”

Congratulations to Wendy Becker, who has been nominated to become the chair of the board of Sony Group Corp., following the company’s annual general meeting in March. Wendy is one of the first non-Japanese woman to chair a publicly listed Japanese company.

I am eager to hear what you are up to. If you don’t want to write about yourself, please send news about your classmates!
