Bea and I have seen several of the hockey games this winter and they have been very exciting. Unfortunately the team's record is not particularly good but the games have been fun to watch. JudPierson, Jack Wright and Jack Manchester are pretty regular attendees.

Al and Betty Speare have become grandparents for the third time thanks to the arrival of William D. Carey Jr. in September and Laura E. Speare in December.

Hoby Van Deusen will some day be a neighbor of mine on his farm in nearby Wentworth, but in the meantime he is being kept busy in the bowels of New York City as Archbold assistant curator in the Department of Mammalogy at the American Museum of Natural History. During December the department featured ambergris as the exhibit of the month. He is also president of the Explorers Club which recently held a $100-a-plate dinner for 1,000 guests to raise funds to support the research of young scientists studying the environmental crises. Lowell Thomas was 'he Toastmaster and Secretary of the Interior Rogers C.B. Morton one of the Principal speakers. Hoby does get out of the city occasionally and in January visited a 10,000 acre wilderness tract in the Adirondacks owned by one of the club members.

Charlie and Gene Clark did a lot of travelling last year. Using Tulsa as a base they spent 51 days travelling in Morocco, Spain, Portugal and Majorca. In November they extended a business trip from Phoenix down the west coast of Mexico to Puerta Vallarta and then inland to Guadalajara, Guanajuato, San Luis Potosi, and then home via the Pan American highway.

Texas Governor Preston Smith has appointed Bob Thornton of Dallas to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. This is a six year term which expires in November 1977. Bob is chairman of the board of the Mercantile National Bank.

Rohm and Haas Company of Philadelphia has announced that Ted Monahan has chosen "early retirement in 1972 under the company's optional program." Ted, a graduate of Harvard Business School, has been with Rohm and Haas, manufacturer of chemicals, plastics, fibers, and health products, for 36 years, and was named controller in 1966. He has recently moved to 1908 Yardley Commons, Yardley, Pa. 19067. The Class wishes him a happy, healthy, and rewarding retirement.

Dick Goldthwait has been appointed acting dean of the College of Mathematics and Physical Sciences at the Ohio State University. Dick writes: "You were hollering for news—and rightly so. It's no trip to Antartica nor teaching in Europe this year! I got "hooked" on this job for a while (after avoiding it for years). Worst is that the people and the state are in such an economy mood that I can't do a thing (fruitful that is) and just have to cut down people and programs. I'm doing my best. Will cool my heels this summer in Wolfeboro, N. H., as I always do (off and on July and August). That makes life worthwhile all over again!"

The annual Boston Alumni Meeting is scheduled for April 4 at the Marriott Inn, Newton. Sid Stoneman is planning a class get together so everyone in the area should reserve the date and await further word from Sid and his committee. This has become an annual class gathering and you'll have a great time.

More next month—if you write!!!'
