DARTMOUTH PRESS BUILDING DESTROYED
June, 1914

The building occupied by the Dartmouth Press was gutted by fire early on the morning of Sunday, May 3. The building itself was a total loss, though the linotype machine and the presses were only slightly damaged. The Dartmouth Press, which is owned by F. A. Musgrove '99, prints THE ALUMNI MAGAZINE, The Dartmouth, The Bema, and The Hanover Gazette, and has a considerable miscellaneous printing business as well. Although almost the entire edition of THE ALUMNI MAGAZINE, which was ready for mailing, was damaged, and some of the forms had to be entirely reset, the work was pushed through so rapidly that there was little delay to subscribers.

The building was erected about eighty years ago, and has long housed the press business of the town. A new fireproof building will be placed on its site and the equipment of the plant will be improved in various ways.
