A concert by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and recitals by Reinald Werrenrath, leading American baritone, and by Albert Spalding, foremost American violinist, will feature Dartmouth's musical program for this year.
The New York Philharmonic Orchestra is composed of 102 talented musicians who will appear in Hanover Saturday, November 3, to entertain the large out-of-town gathering and the alumni who will be here for the Cornell football game and the dedication of Memorial Field. This metropolitan orchestra is the oldest professional orchestra in America and is considered by leading musical critics as one of the finest in the country.
Reinald Werrenrath, America's most popular baritone, who appeared in Hanover two years ago, will give a song recital January 15. Mr. Werrenrath was exceedingly with Dartmouth students when he made his last appearance here and more requests have been made for his return than for any other artist who has come to Hanover with the exception of Fritz Kreisler.
Albert Spalding will conclude the Dartmouth musical program for the year with a violin recital March 11. Mr. Spalding is the adopted son of A. G. Spalding, the well-known maker of sporting goods. He has given recitals in both Europe and America, and has written several compositions for the violin. During the World War, Spalding enlisted in the Aviation Corps, and gave many recitals for the soldiers in France.
In addition to these attractions, the Department of Music is making arrangements for its usual series of weekly concerts during the indoor season. These will include both local and outside talent, but a definite program of these entertainments has not yet been made.
