THE SOUTHEASTERN ASSOCIATION

Dartmouth in Dixie was never more in evidence than it was on the evening of Friday, October 3, when an even dozen alumni gathered at the Capital City Club in Atlanta, Georgia, to celebrate Dartmouth Night and to hold the annual meeting of the Southeastern Alumni Association. Gatherings elsewhere that night undoubtedly exceeded this little southern meeting in point of numbers—but not in genuine enthusiasm.

Walter B. ("Jogger") Elcock '12, retiring president of the Association, presided at the banquet as toastmaster. Jogger thrives on football and as usual he held the fellows' interest with stories and anecdotes of Dartmouth football from the "good old days" up to the very present.

The oldest alumnus present was the Rev. M. L. Stimson '78, but he was close pressed for seniority honors by Prof. Myron W. Adams '81. A visiting graduate was W. G. Haas '22 of New York city.

Because of the fact that Dartmouth Night "slipped up" on the local Atlanta alumni—it had been calculated that it would come a week later than it did—none of the Dartmouth men from Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, and the Carolinas were present. However, another gathering is planned for the spring, at which time many of these "out-of-town" members of the Association will be on hand.

H. V. Sullivan '22, retiring secretary-treasurer of the Association, who leaves Atlanta shortly for a conection with a large sugar plantation in Cuba, read the address delivered by "Prexy" Hopkins to the freshman class this fall. Wah-hoo-wahs and Dartmouth songs were numerous. It was definitely decided to hold luncheon meetings regularly in Atlanta at the Ansley Hotel on the first and third Fridays of each month hereafter. Any Dartmouth men who happen to be in Atlanta are urged to drop in at these luncheons.

Election of officers for the coming year resulted in Allan C. Gottschaldt '18 being chosen president and Joel G. Harris '15 secretarytreasurer. Al Gottschaldt is vice-president of The Kenneth S. Keyes Co., Atlanta advertising agency, and Joel Harris has just joined the advertising deportment of the Atlanta Georgian.

Those present at the Atlanta meeting were: A. L. Johnson 'IS, John D. More '12, Walter B. Etcock '12, Joel G. Harris 'IS, Fred P. Lowe 'IS, W. G. Haas '22, Howard W. Hall '01, Allan C. Gottschaldt '18, M. W. Adams '81, M. L, Stimson '78, H. V. Sullivan '22, and L. H. Rector '19.
