At the ninety-ninth annual "University Day" of the University of Pennsylvania, on February 22, Charles M. Hough received the honorary degree of J. U. D. (Juris Utriusque Doctor), commonly known as ' Doctor of Civil and Canon Law." In conferring it President Penniman said:
"Charles Merrill Hough: Graduate of Dartmouth College, distinguished practitioner of law, United States District Judge of the Southern District of New York, United States Circuit Judge, author of important legal decisions, you have been invited to be present today to receive public recognition of your career as one who throughout his life has kept before him. the fact that 'Justice is the greatest interest of man on earth.'"
Judge Hough had previously received LL.D. from Dartmouth, Williams, and Yale.
At the dinner of the Alumni Association of New York City at the Plaza on February 19, the local contingent of Cohen, Closson, Hough, Melville, and Thayer was reinforced' by Proctor and Wheatley, who came over from Boston. The affair was generally regarded as the most successful thing of the kind we have ever had.
