The battle cry of the "Perennials" has sounded, and already over twenty men are pointing to the unofficial return to Hanover in June. If you have never been back to the exercises on a non-1916-reunion year, you have missed one of the most intimate contacts, with the seething campus life. The advance guard of the Balmacaan cohorts is planning a day on the future camping ground, the now historic banks of Lake Morey. Your golf bag and seventy-two hours leave passes you through the lines, and once inside the current carries you merrily along until you reluctantly clutch at the bank, and climb back into the humdrum of every-day life. That old gang of yours will be there, and the quartette, too; and the stilly nights will still exist—in verse. Come you back, you Balmacaaner!
If the aesthetic side of your education has been neglected, the broadening influence of the renowned Finishing School of Pitch is highly recommended. Professors Parker, Cutler, and English of the faculty report that the peak in the enrolment of candidates has now been passed. During the dull season a special introductory course is offered to undeveloped material of promising calibre. Illustrated booklet of fifty-two pages will be cheerfully mailed upon request.
The "Big Gun of Cuba" has boomed again, and hurled a three-paged missile into the heart of Boston. Commenting caustically on the abandon with which the last few bachelors of the class are flinging away their freedom, Pete reaffirms in no mean terms his previous stand on the institution of matrimony.
By previous reports we learned that "Louie" Gove had forsaken Manhattan to locate in the "cultural center" of the universe. That the report might be confirmed, "Louie" blossomed forth at the regular Wednesday class luncheon in the Dartmouth Club of Boston.
The 1916 questionnaires continue to come in, although slowly. On May 1 a few over two hundred and fifty men had been heard from. The publication of a complete directory is being held up until the response from a last call has been received. If you would have your name, address, and other intimate personals correctly listed, speak your piece or suffer the consequences of forcing the secretary to allow his imagination to run riot.
Official returns from the district comprising Minnesota and the Dakotas have three out of the seven 1916 men definitely pointed to the lawn fete on the shores of Lake Morey in June, 1926. Stan Lyman, as district agent, speaks for himself and A 1 Gluek of Minneapolis fame.
Bill Gaylord crashes into the "select circle" upon the arrival of the questionnaire announcing' two sons and a daughter.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Lincoln Kirk announce the marriage of their daughter, Mary Elizabeth, to Mr. Lawrence L. Davidson on Wednesday, the fourteenth of May, at Sioux City, lowa. At the time of going to press the wedding date is still ten days away. For that reason it is impossible to report correctly the details of the ceremony. Rumor has it that the honeymooners are to wend their way East with Hanover as one of the focal points. The honors of the reception are entrusted to Johnnie Gile and Gil Tapley. Do your duty!
On the report of May 1 Jesse Ffenno announces encouraging progress in rolling up the Alumni Fund quota. Conspicuously outstanding is the number of new contributors this year. With the actual cash and pledges in hand there is still four hundred dollars lacking to ring the bell at the 100% mark. During the past month fifteen more of the regular contributors of previous years have entered the lists, but there are fifty former contributors who have failed as yet to "peep." It has been a late spring, 'tis true, but the final gong clangs on June 30, and we are now on the gu:i lap!
Sprint your stuff if you are to be at the finish when 'l6 breasts the tape!
Treading the footsteps of other famous Balmacaaners, Jim Coffin lectured recently ;on the Taylor System of Planning Control before the factory problems class of the Harvard Business School. We glory with you, Jim, in t'he highly successful accomplishment.
And Jim used to be one of us.
The "Perennials" will gather at the' senior fence, Friday night, June 20, 7 p m., to the strains of that weird quartette.
