By winning four singles matches and two doubles the Dartmouth tennis team opened its season May 2, at Providence, with an impressive 6 to 0 victory over the Brown men. Captain Osgood, of Dartmouth provided the feature playing of the day, his brilliant strokes being the cause of much applause.

The second meet of the season was that with the M. I. T. players on the courts of the Oakley Country Club, Boston, May 3. Again the Dartmouth players won all six matches. Captain Osgood was a bit slow to start, losing the first set of his match with Tressel, of Technology, by a score of 4-6. He won both succeeding matches, however, by scores of 6-3. Boyd, of Dartmouth, was hard pressed to win from Russell, 7-5 in the first set, and Robinson was forced to three sets by Peck, of Technology who took the first by a score of 6-1. Both doubles matches went the full three set distance, Osgood and Boyd defeating Russell and Tressel, 2-6, 8-6 6-3; and Newcomb and Robinson winning from Peck and Broadhurst, 6-3, 6-8, 6-3.

Playing at Schenectady, N. Y., May 16, completed a total of 18 matches without a defeat by winning from the players of Union College 6to 0. Captain Osgood continued his brilliant play with victories of 6-1. and 6-0 over Ottman, of Union.

The first defeat of the year was meted out by the Williams tennis team which won four of the six matches played at Williamstown. Osgood, of Dartmouth, was pressed to win from Marsh, Williams, the scores being 6-4, 9-7. The other Dartmouth win was scored in the doubles match in which Newcomb and Robinson, of Dartmouth won from Becker and Cook, of Williams, 6-4, 6-4.

Freshman Tennis

The only meet in which the Dartmouth Freshman Tennis Team has thus far engaged was held with the Harvard Freshmen, at Cambridge, May 6, when the Cambridge team scored an easy victory of 5 matches to 1.

The freshmen court 'players engaged in another meet at Andover, May 17, defeating the school players four matches to two. Schuster and Morcroft, of Dartmouth won matches from Luce and Ward, of Andover, in the singles and took both doubles matches, Partridge and Schuster defeating Evans and Luce, and Welty and Morcroft winning from Pope and Ward.
