The Dartmouth squash team performed most gratifyingly in the National Inter-collegiates in Williamstown, winning the doubles and getting well into the upper brackets in several of the individual contests. This meet represents, for all practical purposes, the entire roster of institutions in the country that play squash racquets, so the competition is the best there is. The doubles championship was won by Rick Austin and Steve Foster, who took the measure of an Army pair in the finals. The luster of this championship is somewhat dimmed by the fact that the doubles was limited (on account of the shortage of physical facilities) to the men who were eliminated in the first two rounds of the singles competition. Nevertheless, this qualification should not obscure the very real performance of Coach Red Hoehn's boys. In the singles competition, Steve Foster lost in the first round. Bill Flannagan lost in the second round, after drawing a bye. Paul Simel got into the third round before he was eliminated, and Rick Austin survived into the second round. Playing against the best competition in the country, the Dartmouth team did very well indeed.
