Many building changes and improvements have been undertaken by the College, fraternities and town during the summer.
The College has had the balcony in Rollins Chapel torn out and the platform extended back to make room for the choir and organist.
Work on President Hopkins' new home on Webster avenue is being pushed forward rapidly.
The old Choate house between the White Church and Webster Hall has been converted into a conference hall for the use of the Citizenship Department. The extension at the rear of the house was torn down and the interior entirely renovated. Reading rooms and offices for members of the Citizenship Department were installed. .
Two fraternities have moved into new houses and two others have moved to temporary quarters. The Delta Tau Delta and Sigma Nu fraternities are occupying their new houses on Webster avenue. The Zeta Psi fraternity has moved from 21 School street to the old Sigma Nu house at 27 North Main street.
Work on the foundation for the new Zeta Psi house, which will be on the corner of Webster avenue and Tuck Drive, has been begun. The house will be of brick and will be modeled after Washington's home at Mt. Vernon. The contract calls for the completion of the house by May 10, 1926, in time for spring house party week.
The Theta Delta Chi house on West Wheelock street has been torn down and work will be started this fall on the new house, which will occupy the same site. It will be built of Colonial brick. The Theta Delta Chi's have taken over the old Kappa Kappa Kappa house on North Main street until next summer. Their new house will be ready for use in the fall of 1926. The former Theta Delta Chi house is the only house in the memory of the oldest inhabitant of Hanover to be torn down rather than moved to a different location.
The Sphinx tomb is being enlarged by the addition of another room at the rear. A new furnace will be installed and various other changes made in the interior.
The Anderson house on the Lyme road near the ski jump has been moved to the other side of the road and the site added to the golf course.
The precinct has been active during the summer, building sidewalks in various parts of the town, notably Webster avenue, College street fn front of the Wilson Library, and South street from Main to School. The house at the corner of School and South streets, occupied by F. S. Dyke, has been moved back to eliminate a dangerous corner.
Three double houses have been built by the College for the use of faculty members. They are situated on the Balch street extension of East Wheelock street on the old state farm.
