The varsity tennis season was scheduled to open with a three-day trip with Wesleyan, Princeton and Penn as the opponents. The last named college and rain furnished all of the opposition, however.
Penn yielded gracefully 4 to 2. Captain Osgood after a closely contested first set dropped his singles match but came back to win his doubles match with Boyd. Tourtellot also dropped his singles match but only after three sets of fast tennis.
In its first home appearance on May 8, the first day of house party, the varsity netmen decisively defeated Amherst, all matches being won in straight sets and but one set going to deuce.
On May 12 the varsity gained another straight set victory, this time at the expense of Vermont. Again only one set went into extra games.
On May 16 the tennis team again won by a shut-out score but Boyd, playing number one in the absence of Captain Osgood, was forced to an 11—9 score by Captain Cullen of Holy Cross to win his first set. Osgood, after placing thipd in the two-mile run against Harvard, returned to team up with, Boyd and win their doubles match.
