Brown 10—Dartmouth 0
DECEMBER 1926

Starting the contest with Brown, at Hanover October 30 the Dartmouth team drove its way impressively down the field, alternating passes and running plays until within a few minutes after the opening kickoff the Green team had the ball on Brown's 8-yard line for a first down. Here, however, the "iron men" of Brown who had played through an entire game against Yale without substitutions, stiffened defensively and held Dartmouth scoreless. Throughout the remainder of the afternoon the Green was unable to maintain a consistent attack, while Brown, scoring a touchdown by a well-conceived and perfectly executed play and adding a field goal when later within striking distance of the Dartmouth goal line, gathered 10 points and the first victory over Dartmouth since 1919.

Harris, a sophomore substitute of great promise, started the game at quarterback for Dartmouth in place of Dooley and his passes to Lane were more successful than Dartmouth passes had been in any previous game this season. Mixed in with end runs, shots off tackle, and a few criss-cross jabs through the Brown line they were highly effective and resulted in the Green's longest sustained attack of the season.

From start to finish the game was one stubbornly contested, the lone touchdown scored by Brown coming in the second period when the Brown ends blocked a punt which Black attempted from the 24-yard line. Black made a valiant effort to recover the ball which bounded high over his head, but was unable to reach it ahead of Broda, the Brown captain. Brown jabbed twice at the Dartmouth line but failed to gain. On the following play Towle, at right end for Brown, decoyed the Dartmouth defense far o£f to his side of the field while Randall, running to the left, received a true pass from Mishel and raced over the goal line untouched. Mishel kicked the try for point for Brown.

Dartmouth began a second attack in the third period and was meeting with success until Davis was adjudged to have been ineligible to receive a pass from Harris and Brown was given tilt ball at the spoKof the previous down. A forward pass again contributed to Dartmouth's undoing when in the final quarter of the game Dooley who had replaced Harris had a pass intercepted by Hodge, the Brown right tackle. Three running plays proving ineffective Mishel dropped back to the Dartmouth 31-yard line and from that point scored a field goal which added three points to the Brown score.

Although the Green team was unable to register a score against Brown the statistics of the game reveal the stubbornness of the opposition provided for the "iron men." Dartmouth gained 198 yards from scrimmage to Brown's 120, and completed 10 out of 16 passes while Brown completed 5 out of 9. Dartmouth was credited with 14 first downs and Brown with 6.
