Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Holmes received the first prize, amounting to $3OO, in first annual award for home builders established by the Springfield, Republican as a memorial to Samuel Bowles, its third editor. Joe's message to the class is therefore, "Build ye more stately mansions."

The New York Commercial has been publishing a series of articles on "Grocery Clerks Who Have Become Successful," which have been written by Bartlett Arkell, the president of the Beech-Nut Packing Company. The seventh article "presents a review of the life of the Hon. Enos K. Sawyer," to which our "Fat" contributes some paragraphs about his early occupation—long before he went to Richardson Hall.
