OCCOM POND WILL BE KEPT CLEAR ALL WINTER
February, 1926

Occom Pond, more familiarly known as "Faculty Pond" will be kept open for skating all winter if the united efforts of the Dartmouth Outing Club, The Athletic Council, and the Precinct of Hanover continue to meet with the success of the past few weeks.

These organizations recently purchased three horsedrawn scoops and one horsedrawn plane by means of which about one half of the surface of the pond has been made and kept clear for skaters. The ice surface provided by planing and flooding gives in addition to space available for general skating, sufficient additional space for a hockey rink and for a regulation speed-skating track of one-sixth of a mile. A shack neat the pond has been renovated and equipped to serve as a stand for the sale of coffee and "hot dogs."

It is expected that the total amount necessary to keep the pond clear, to flood it, plane it, and light it at night, will reach $1450 the difference between this sum and the amount already raised being supplied by the sale of tickets to skaters.

The events of the Carnival Outdoor Evening and all of the skating events of the Winter Sports Meet, of February 22, will be staged on Occom Pond.
