Laurie Wakefield is traveling around Minnesota and adjacent .parts of the country, selling for the Minnesota Linseed Oil and Paint Copany.
Bob Pike is also around that region, being a teacher of languages everal of them at school in Owatonna, Minn. He handles French, German, Spanish, Latin, and what else have you? Upon referring to the December issue of this magazine we note with a rather puzzled air that we there reported Bob as teaching French at a military school at Lake Geneva, Wis. It is annoying to make mistakes, but when they must be corrected there is the advantage of having two items of news growing where only one grew before.
Speaking of mistakes, Chuck Babcock, who bumped into the two above mentioned classmates while peddling Comptometers around the vicinity of the Twin Cities, chided the Secretary upon not using as news the activities of such a close acquaintance. The Secretary was under the impression that he had overworked Chuck as news by using him twice already. However, we always like to give space to our contributors, and we do not always ride them, either. (Will the 614 non-contributors in the class please note?)
The term "contributors" suggests an idea. Why not use this column for "articles of literary value and also articles of criticism" as well as for news? It would surely be as successful as the erstwhile "Third Rail". Comments by the editor would of course be barred, and every month would be "Contributors Month".
Ford Allen and Bill Barker are located in the city, of Chicago. The editor met them New Year's eve, and as we remember the facts Ford, who spent the last two years of his collge course at Michigan, is traveling around Middle Western territory selling something, and Bill is with the Western Electric.
A letter that comes to hand from Allen Bickford confirms the rumor that Bob Pike is now at Owatonna, Minn., instead of Lake Geneva, Wis. Bick has himself covered a lot of ground since June of 1925, and we feel more confident that we have the right dope on him since it is first hand. He has toured around 29 states for a total of about eleven thousand miles, using public camp grounds all the time. In covering the ground between Los Angeles and Boston, Bick struck the following well known paths: Mohawk Trail, Yellowstone Trail, Old Oregon Trail, Columbia River Highway, Pacific Highway, Santa Fe Trail, Arrowhead Trail, Victory Highway, National Olds Trail, and the Boston Post Road. That's a pretty complete record. Last winter he spent teaching Math and science in Dietrich, Idaho, and he is now with the W. T. Grant Company in Nashua, N. H.
Sam Carlisle, who has been with the Western Paper Company in Omaha, Neb., has taken a good step upwards, and is now with the Western Newspaper Union, Des Moines, lowa.
