The 1930 basketball team on its first trip of the season, continued its unbroken string of victories by defeating Horace Mann School of New York, 35 to 10 and the Columbia Freshman team 40 to 25. Both games were easily won, with Schmit, Swarthout and Tangeman featuring the Horace Mann game and Captain Cheney and Lewin starring in the game against Columbia.
Cheney, Swarthout, and Lewin again starred for the freshmen when the Dartmouth 1930 team defeated the Harvard 1930 team by a score of 52 to 27 in Alumni Gymnasium. The game
was played as a preliminary to the Dartmouth- Pennsylvania encounter. Exeter was defeated 34 to 26 by the freshman five at Exeter March 5. The Dartmouth team secured an early lead in the game and was never headed, leaving the floor at half time in possession of a 21 to IS advantage. Lewin, of Dartmouth, featured the game with five baskets from the floor and four from the foul line for a total of 14 points.
With the Exeter team the Dartmouth Freshman Basketball Team closed its season undefeated for the first time in five years. The Harvard and Columbia freshman teams were defeated by the Dartmouth 1930 men and among the leading preparatory schools Exeter, the Horace Mann School, and the Massee School, of Stamford, Connecticut had been conquered. Massee, claiming the championship of Connecticut had defeated Cushing Academy, a leader among the New England preparatory school teams, and the Horace Mann School team had been runner-up to Manhattan Prep, for the championship of New York schools.
