HANOVER BUILDING SEASON BUSIER THAN USUAL
AUGUST, 1927

The annual summer building boom has assumed unusual proportions in Hanover this year owing to the progress being made on the new library, the gift of George F. Baker, of New York city, in memory of his uncle, Fisher Ames Baker, of the class of '59. Work has been speeded up on the library so that some portions of it will be ready for occupancy shortly after the beginning of January 1928.

The completion of the library will necessitate the removal of Butterfield Hall which has for years inadequately served as the home of the natural science departments. The new Natural Science Building which will supplant Butterfield is being erected on the site 'of the old Kappa Kappa Kappa House and will be ready for use during the next spring recess.

The old parsonage variously known as "The Choate House" and "The Leeds House," has been removed to a location next to the old Sigma Nu House, on North Main Street where it will continue to serve as a home for the Citizenship Department.

Work has also been begun on a new dormitory which will stand just west of Hitchcock Hall in the old Hitchcock garden. This building will be L shaped and will provide rooms for a few more than 100 students. It will be constructed of red brick in the Colonial style of architecture characteristic of the newest Dartmouth buildings.
